The Dawning of Indestructible Joy
Yesterday was December 1, and I have a long standing tradition in my personal life that takes place every December. I look forward to this every year, because I choose some specific resources and read them throughout the month of December in preparation for Christmas. It is a fun, personal journey in my own growth and sanctification process. Every year I feel that it helps me stay focused on the season of Christmas and helps me celebrate Jesus and why He came.
It is important for Christians to grow in our awareness of Christ’s holiness and His great love for us. I think the busy-ness of America can keep us from deep mediation, especially during the holidays. I think we pray less in America because we are programmed for progress and progress comes from getting up and doing something about it. I still have a lot to learn from those in the past and present who are too busy not to pray, read, reflect, and meditate.
I am choosing to make December a time of learning for me. I need to continue remembering what Jesus has done for me. I need to instill in my own life values and time, which are used by Jesus to drive me toward my goals of being a man of prayer and the Word. I need to be compelled by the Holy Spirit in this because I am weak and need His strength. I am finding that I recognize the power of Jesus at work in me when I slow down and remember that a baby came to die and rose again to be my King.
This is a powerful message and one that is easy to take for granted. This is why we need the Holy Spirit and the community of believers to spur us on. So my thought this Christmas season is maybe I should continue my annual pilgrimage of study in the Word and prayer, but maybe I should invite others on the journey with me.
Waypoint Church, I am inviting you to journey with me this season. I am going to be reading “The Dawning of Indestructible Joy" by John Piper. I am excited about starting this today and reading it up to Christmas. Will you join me? There is a link to a free PDF download of Pastor John Piper’s book at the bottom of this post, and I invite you to download it to your digital device and join me. Come, let’s journey together this season!
Merry Christmas Season!
